Holistic, health and cannabis
Holism affects the overall picture; it refers to the theory that nothing happens in a vacuum. In seeking answers to a problem, wholeness tends to emphasize "everything" rather than parts.
English Oxford Dictionaries define holism:
The theory that parts of a whole are closely related so that they can not exist independently at all, or can not be understood without reference to the whole, which is therefore considered to be greater than the sum of its totality.
And if holistic health concerns:
The treatment of the person as a whole takes into account the mental and social factors and not just the symptoms of a disease.
Another way of thinking about holism is the analogy between natural and artificial systems (eg ecosystem, health system, family system, solar system, etc.).
There is a look and an interior. The content of a system (eg, weather, animals, and plants) is composed of interconnected and interdependent elements that directly reflect the general context in which they exist (eg, an ecosystem).
If everything leads to a result that is greater than each of its parts, we can call this synergy (for example: a storm, the music of an orchestra).
The opposite of holism, of reductionism, analyzes something through its components.
Holistic health: treatment of the whole person
The traditional approach of the medical system has taught us to recognize health from a reductionist point of view. We go to the doctor to repair a certain part of our body because it does not work well and can cause pain.
Millions of people are getting positive results with the medical model. The only problem is that this model almost exclusively takes into account the health of the body. In mental health, the typical solution is to prescribe antidepressants.
Why is this a problem?
We humans are complex beings. We have thoughts, emotions and a soul, the personal intangible relationship to a macro-reality that is beyond us. Who we are is also constantly influenced in the context of the family, the community, the country and the world.A holistic approach to health and well-being takes into account the reality of these interrelated and interdependent elements that make us who we are. The discomfort of anyone can directly (and negatively) affect the health of other parts of our lives.
For this reason alone, holistic care is focused on the person and not on the subject or illness. Stress, anxiety and depression often lead to a physical symptom, for example. Everything is connected.
According to the September 2017 National Survey of Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the American Psychiatric Association reported that the use of antidepressants increased from 1:50 to 1 in 9 between 2011 and 2014. 'here 2018,
This is clear proof of the increase in mood disorders in Americans.
Why increased use? As mentioned above, nothing happens in a vacuum and the assessment of lifestyle in terms of home, relationships, finances, work, etc. becomes a crucial task to determine their impact. The key is to determine the cause (s) and create a recovery plan.
